Following is a list of some of the great camp options in and around Taos. Harwood Museum

Art Explorations Workshops - A series of multi-day workshops scheduled during June & July  introducing kids to different themes in art, often aligned to current museum exhibitions. Guest artist instructors as well as museum educators present 2-projects daily over a four day period from Tuesday through Friday 10-noon. One of the most popular Art Exploration Workshops is Create a Parade, where kids, parents and teachers work together to design, fabricate and then walk in the Arroyo Seco 4th of July Parade. TCA presents the Missoula Children’s Theater

An audition will be held for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of King Arthur’s Quest on Monday August 2, 2010 from 8:45 AM to 11:00 AM at the Taos Community Auditorium. Approximately 50 roles are available for local students from 1st grade through 12th grade. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, August 7th at 3:00 and 7:00 PM. Penasco Youth Circus Arts Camp

This is a 2 week summer circus camp for youth ages 6 -13 taking place July 19th through 30th, Monday - Friday, between 10am – 4pm at Penasco Theater, 15046 NM 75, Penasco. No experience necessary, but class size limited. Stilt walking, juggling, trapeze, acrobalance, unicycle, theatre, visual arts.  Call 575 587 2627 for more information.

Millicent Rogers Museum “The Art of Drawing the Human Head”- a free drawing workshop for youth grades 6-12. A series of eight sessions on Tues/Thursdays, 9-11 AM, beginning on June 8. Please contact the Museum for registration and a materials list. 758-2462 or mrm@millicentrogers.org.

Taos Youth Ballet.

Hip Hop Camp, Back by popular demand! Learn one of the trendiest dance styles out there!Learn to Hip Hop Dance With Tesha Martinez Ages 7-11 & Ages 12-16. Camp runs 4 weeks from June 5th- June 26th. The Camp is $37.00 for all 4 weeks.

Hoop Dance Camp. Hoop Dance is done using a hoop greater in size and weight than the small plastic hula hoops you are used to seeing. The hoops are moved all around the body spiraling rythmically with music. Hoop dance has gained its popularity because of it's incredible physical benifits.  Thursdays, June 3- June 24th- Students ages 8-10 meet Thursday 3:30-4:30. Students ages 11-13 meet Thursday 4:30- 5:30 The Camp is $37.00 for all 4 weeks.

Summer Dance For Kids 1, for ages 3-6. Meets Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00 for an hour, Includes ballet, Story time, creative movement & tumbling. Camp runs from July 5th- July 30th. June 29th- July 20th- The Camp is $37.00 for all 4 weeks.

Summer Dance For Kids 2, for ages 7-10. Meets Every Thursday from 4:00-5:00, Includes ballet, Choreography & stretching. Camp runs from July 1st- July 22nd. The Camp is $37.00 for all 4 weeks.

Ballet Boot Camp, for ages 11-18. This Ballet intensive will emerse the Intermediate/Advanced student into ballet. Includes ballet technique, repertory, pointe work and conditioning. Meets Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 4:00-6:00. Camp runs for 3 weeks from July 5th- July 23rd. The camp is $15.00 a day, $60.00 a week or $150.00 for the entire 3 week camp.

Dance & Theater Camp -A Week Long Adventure of Imagination! This program will present a musical Called “Trouble in the Village” written by the creative Joanne Forman. The Students will spend the week learning songs by Joanne, dances by Amber Vasquez and learning dramatic lines and plot from Karen Tibido. The program will finish with a performance of “Trouble in the Village”  for ages 5-12. Our annual week long dance extravaganza. Ends with a demonstration/ performance. Camp runs July 26th- 30th. School Camps

 

Anansi Day School. Summer program begins June 7th and ends July
30th wth weekly themes such as drumming, yoga, water play, movement and music. Families can purchase by the week. Drop ins welcome. Cost is
$35 a day. In July, Taylor Jaramillo will  be giving swimming lessons

Discovery Program

The future of this affordable summer camp is currently under threat due to cuts in funding for afterschool programs following the last NM Legistlative session. Program Coordinator Jennifer Hallstrom is trying to generate alternative funding to save this camp, as well as their after-school program, and would appreciate any help in raising awareness of, and support for, this issue. Leaping Lizards

Music Rocks Summer Camp - Traditions of Music for 6-10yr olds.

Join Leaping Lizards this summer as they venture into the world of traditional music and rhythm with Rosario Carelli, Sonya Bernal and Paula Medina.  Includes an exciting and innovative West African music program in which several traditional West African Instruments will be built and chlidren will learn the language of the drum.  Through beats & rhythms, movements & dance, exciting non-competitive games & creative art projects, your child will learn self awareness and creativity.  The program includes Tai Chi, swimming and Field trips. 

The first session is four weeks beginning on June 7th, and the second session is three weeks beginning on July 6th.  They are also running a summer programs for TODDLERS 2-3 year olds, and a NATURE CAMP for 3-5 years olds.  For more info, call 575-758-1311. CYF accepted  

Seeds of Hope Montessori Camp Week-long camps beginning May 31st for 3-8 year olds, 8-4pm, M-F, $125 per week. Youth must be registered for an entire week. Each week has a special theme, including “Digging for Dinosaurs”, “Chef Camp” and “Outer Space”. Contact Michelle Simmons 770-1100.

Taos High School Music Summer School Ages 12-19 for beginning and intermediate music students. All musical instruments including violin, cello, classical guitar, percussions, brass, woodwinds and harmonica will be taught. Classes to be held weekly, beginning on July 5.

Outdoor Pursuits and Multi-Activity Programs

 

NEW Taos Youth Summer Camp. 

5 Day Camp Week at the Taos Youth and Family Center, serving 150 children and running from June 14 - August 6. Ages 6 - 12. Breakfast and Lunch included.$60 Weekly $40 Sibling Rate. This is a partnership of the Town of Taos and Taos Community Foundation.

Registration Fair. Saturday, June 5, 10am - 2pm, Friday Motors 1040 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur. Payment in full is expected for camp registration, which is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The camp is looking for summer camp counselors with a variety of specialties including: art, music, sports,  outdoor education, dance, martial arts. Counselors must be at least 21 years old and have prior experience teaching or working with children. Rocky Mountain Youth Corps Youth, ages 11- 15 to work as a service-team while learning about sustainable agriculture, construction and gardening. Session I (June 7-July 1) and Session II (July 12-Aug 5). No cost. Participating youth earn a $500 Scholarship at the end of their service term. 751-1420 x-31.


Sangre de Cristo Youth Summer Camp is a place where young people grow stronger, wiser, kinder and more creative. Camp experiences include ranch/farming experiences, fine arts work and adventure activities. June 27-July 24 for 10-12 year olds; July 25 – August 7 for teens, 13-18. Field Institute of Taos

Based in the Taos Ski Valley, the FIT outdoor education camps are designed for youth entering first grade and up, and this will be their 15th summer of providing exciting, hands-on adventures in the wilds of New Mexico! Throughout each of the two-week day camp sessions, the camps focus on several different themes (archaeology, river ecology, wildlife biology, orienteering, etc.), which are explored through hikes, field notes and drawings, organized activities, art projects, and games. The older children's two-week sessions include overnight camping trips. They also offer one-week sessions that include backpacking trips, and a one-week mountain bike session for intermediate riders and above. This session includes a camping/riding trip out of town.

Northside Health and Fitness Center

Creative self-expression through dance, drama, music, storytelling and visual arts and a range of fitness activities and outdoor games in a safe and nurturing environment. 12:1 child/adult ratio plus an assistant. Two options: Day Camp for ages 5-11, and Toddler Camp for ages 4 and under.  Starts June 7th. Cost $30 for members, $35 for non-members. Sign up for 3 or 5 days a week. 10% discount for siblings. Deadline for sign-up is May 22. Application forms at Northside front desk. Quail Ridge Neighborhood Camp

 A multi-activity outdoor camp for ages 5 to 13 years,  at the Taos Tennis Resort, Quail Ridge Inn, 88 NM 150 starting Tuesday June 1st . 5 days a week, 8.30pm - 5pm, $20 for haf day, $35 for full day.. Activities include team-building games, swimming, cycling, art, performance, chess and board games, stilt walking and creative play coordinated by Janet Shipley.  Call (575) 776 3447 for more information.

Rivers & Birds Radical Raven Adventures Summer Hiking Club

This club will take place every Wednesday from 9.30 - 3.30 throughout June and July. Take a hike on the wild side/. Journey to a waterfall, hike in the mountains, explore a creek, take photos of nature, visit a glaicallkae, become a Wilderness Steward.

Taos Gymnastics

Weekly camps starting June 7th for ten weeks, covering basic gymnastics, rock climbing swimming, art and cooperative games, taking place at Taos Gymnastics Center, 1020 Reed Street, for ages 4 & up. $20 per day drop-in, $75 per week.. Call 575 758 3200 for more information.

The Taos Youth Soccer League is bringing the nation’s number one soccer camp company, Challenger British Soccer, to the Taos community this summer. Challenger will be conducting a camp at Baca Park during the week of 6/21/2010 (Monday through Friday). Online registration available here
